Key Aspect

The Hillcrest HQ is a practical, sustainable, value for money headquarters for the Hillcrest Housing Association. Designed in synergy, delivered in partnership and enjoyed in use, the building’s flexible layout and physical elegance ably satisfy the Client’s requirements and aspirations.
 
Its environmental focus is reflected in its low carbon footprint and BREEAM Excellent rating; its social contribution by the delight of its users and its economic contribution by the enhancement of the business it serves. This has been applauded by the building being shortlisted for the 2011 RIAS Doolan Award and receiving a number of awards.
 
The brief evolved from an intensive dialogue with the Client. The process questioned, compared, tested and evaluated the Client’s original pre-conceived requirements and in so doing forged robust and clearly understood requirements and aspirations balanced against tested and agreed financial resources.
 
Accommodation is organized within two areas. The publicly accessible areas are located at ground level to facilitate easy access. Conference, training and meeting rooms are arranged around breakout and multipurpose/ social spaces in a controlled but visually linked arrangement. Legible circulation routes lead easily to an upper floor and mezzanine which house a flexible mix of open plan workspace, cellular offices and formal and informal meeting spaces.
 
An exemplar of low carbon design; The Hillcrest HQ has a carbon footprint of 22kg CO2 m2 per annum. i.e. 100% better than ‘good practice’ at the time of its design.
