Key Aspect
The refurbishment of a group of five historic buildings in the centre of Dundee involving the full restoration and refitting of the buildings for use as a Youth Hostel. At the heart of the site is a tower house, the only surviving example of a 16th century Merchant House in the city. Preserving evidence of the past was as important to the project as the restoration of individual rooms. Extensive use was made of traditional materials in accordance with Historic Scotland's requirements.
Brown Construction worked closely with the specialist conservation architects Simpson & Brown throughout the restoration process.
Gardyne's Land has been awarded the 'Best Example of Environmental & Conservation' by the DIA and a Dundee Civic Trust award.
