Key Aspect
Sustainability: Where possible houses are orientated south with open plan living spaces and large windows located for maximum passive solar gain. All principle elements are designed to achieve U-values in excess of 2011 SBS standards through enhanced thermal insulation and each house has a roof mounted Photovoltaic Array to augment power supply, reduce the Carbon footprint and generate FITs. The whinstone used on the street elevation is salvaged from the former school building, the Accoya timber cladding is a 100% recyclable and renewable resource, Knauf Earthwool was used in the walls and roof - it is a BRE Green Guide A+ rated product, made using recycled materials, Formaldehyde-free and uses up to 70% less embodied energy. Dual flush and low flow rate taps/showers were installed throughout and the timber kit [which features a service void to improve air-tightness] and windows are from an FSC/PEFC certified source. KPIs were also agreed with Hart Builders and monitored quarterly to manage waste segregation and ensure efficient use of resources.
